In this Q&A, we explore her academic journey, the passion that fuels her career and her first steps into the world of environmental consultancy with RSK in Abu Dhabi. What inspired you to pursue a career as a graduate environmental consultant, and what degree did you study to help you achieve this?
I graduated from Zayed University in Abu Dhabi with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and sustainability. My studies inspired me to pursue a career closely aligned with my field, especially as the programme covered a broad range of topics. This motivated me to explore the field more deeply and gain hands-on experience. I’m proud to have had the opportunity to join RSK as a graduate environmental consultant, where I’m able to apply my academic knowledge in a practical setting and continue developing professionally.
As one of the youngest team members, how has your experience been stepping into a diverse and multicultural working environment at the start of your career?
Being the youngest team member has not been a challenge for me. I am enjoying the opportunity to work in a diverse and multicultural environment, and the team has been incredibly supportive and welcoming. I feel fortunate to be part of such a kind and collaborative group, which has made my transition into the professional world much smoother.
In what ways does your Emirati background enrich your approach to work and your engagement with regional projects or clients?
Being Emirati gives me a strong understanding of the region’s culture, traditions and business etiquette, which helps me as I start my career. I feel that my background supports me in building good relationships and communicating effectively with clients and colleagues. I understand the importance of trust and personal connections in Gulf business culture, and my fluency in Arabic and awareness of local customs help me better understand the working environment. I look forward to gaining more experience and applying this cultural understanding to contribute more actively in future projects.
What has been the most exciting or rewarding part of your graduate journey so far?
One of the most rewarding parts of my graduate journey so far has been the opportunity to apply what I learned in university to real-world environmental projects. Working on projects in a challenging and dynamic setting such as Iraq has allowed me to grow both technically and personally. It’s been exciting to see how my contributions make a real impact. Being part of a supportive and multicultural team at RSK has made the experience even more fulfilling.
Can you briefly describe some of the projects or tasks you’ve been involved in that have helped you grow as a consultant?
I have been involved primarily in projects based in Iraq, working on a variety of scopes related to groundwater, air quality and soil. These experiences have helped me grow as an environmental consultant by teaching me how to effectively communicate and collaborate remotely across long distances. Through these projects, I have also developed strong skills in work management, report writing and research.
How have the opportunities for professional development in the Middle East helped shape your skills and long-term career expectations?
The opportunities for professional development in the Middle East have helped me build a strong foundation at the start of my career. Through my work, I’ve learned how to deal with real environmental issues. These experiences are showing me how important environmental work is in this region, and they are helping me understand the kind of career I want in the future: one where I can continue learning and make a positive impact.
What advice would you give to other graduates considering starting their career in environmental consultancy with RSK in the UAE?
My advice to other graduates is to be patient, stay curious and keep learning and exploring. The right opportunity will come your way, one that aligns with your goals and helps shape you into the professional you aspire to become.

I would like to add that I’m very eager to continue learning and growing in my role. I appreciate the support and opportunities I’ve received so far and look forward to continuing to contribute to the team and projects in the future.
